Custodian/Maintenance Job Description:

 

 

Purpose: The Custodain provides a safe, attractive, comfortable and clean environemnt to ensure full and productive use of building facilities. To accomplish these tasks the Custodian must work closely with staff and administration in the building. 

 

Responsible to: Building Administration; SEK 637 Administration.

 

Experience:  Job related experience is desired.

 

Education/Qualifications: 

  1. High school diploma or equivalent. 
  2. Applicants must have 48 college hours or qualifying score on Master Teacher Online Exam within the first 90 days of employment, and 20 hours per year of in-service training are required. 
  3. Ability to work independently without supervision
  4. Ability to lift heavy objects
  5. desire to continue career improvement by enhancing skills and job performance
  6. All classified positions are considered non-exempt, at will positions. 

 

Clearances: (Required upon offer of/and acceptance of employment)

  • Criminal Background check
  • Health and Inoculation Certificate on file in Central Office

 

FLSA Status:  Non-Exempt

 

Wages:  Based on hourly rate, number of days worked, and completion of required trainings (9-month school calendar)

 

Essential Functions: 

  • Ability to provide a clean, safe, attractive, and comfortable environment to ensure full and productive use of building facilities. 
  • Ability to communicate and work effectively and cooperatively with members of the school building and community
  • Ability to react to changes and frequent interrupstions in a productive and positive manner, and handle other tasks as assigned. 
  • Ability to implement the vision and mission of the Building and Interlocal organization. 
  • Ability to maintain composure and self-regulate in stressful situations when student behavior escalates and/or becomes aggressive or disruptive.
  • Implements education and behavioral programming daily under the supervision of the classroom certified staff for the purpose of developing new skills for students.
  • Directly instructs students in a variety of activities in individual and group settings (e.g. academic subjects, social skills, daily living skills, etc) for the purpose of meeting IEP goals under the direction of certified staff.
  • Directly assists students throughout the entirety of their school day within a variety of school environments and/or community environments (e.g. rest rooms, playgrounds, hallways, bus loading zones, fire drills, assemblies, cafeteria, parking lots, etc.) for the purpose of providing a safe and positive environment conducive to learning.
  • Collaborates with staff for the purpose of providing necessary support and information related to the student’s progress as established in the Individual Education Plan.
  • Assist in establishing a positive learning environment, and respond to the individual needs of students.
  • Assist in safeguarding confidential information, and observing confidentiality requirements.
  • Use of appropriate behavior management techniques to maintain a positive climate for learning.
  • Faithful, daily attendance and adherence to work schedules.
  • Observe all district and interlocal policies during activities.
  • Restrict cell phone usage to break and lunch times.
  • Performs other related duties, as assigned, for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the educational team.

 

 

 

Physical Requirements/Environmental Conditions: 

 The usual and customary methods of performing the job’s functions frequently require the following physical demands: 

  1. Requires physical exertion to manually move, lift, carry, pull, or push heavy objects or materials
  2. Requires walking, sitting, standing, lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling, climbing and balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling.
  3. Ability to move furniture or equipment within the building as required.
  4. Ability to work in noisy, stressful, and crowded environments with numerous interruptions.
  5. Must work indoors and outdoors year-round in a variety of temperatures. 

 

General Responsibilities:

  1. Ability to keep building and premises (including sidewalks, driveways, and play areas) neat, clean, and safe at all times.
  2. Ability to clean classrooms and office floors daily. Dump trash and replace bags. Dust furniture, Line up desks. Clean chalk/marker boards. 
  3. Ability to mop restroom floors and clean sanitary fixtures daily. Clean mirrors. Fill soap, towel, and toilet paper dispensers. Check restrooms frequently.
  4. Ability to sweep lunchroom and gymnasium 
  5. Ability to sweep, shovel, and sand walks as appropropriate. 
  6. Ability to open and close buildings each school day. Secure building. 
  7. Ability to make minor building repairs, and promptly report needed major repairs to building administration.
  8. Ability to respond to infomration requests in a cooperative, courteous, and timely manner.
  9. Ability to keep student and personnel information and records confidential.
  10. Ability to perform other duties and assume other responsbilities assigned by the Building and Interlocal Administration.
